Transmedia

Transmedia Storytelling 8.01.2015

Transmedia: a narrative that extends beyond multiple media forms that also plays to the strength those forms; may or may not be interactive(teachthought. 31.08.2013)

Transmedia to me is a source of digital story telling which can keep the students minds active and thinking by watching short clips and listening to the narrative or reading short novels. I think this is great for learning as I believe this can keep the students mind active and let them interact there ideas with other class members as well as teachers, and not get distracted with old terms of learning which include the old blackboard, white board and overhead projector,  and the teacher teaching the class and writing notes on the blackboard to copy. Short movies with burst of colours can keep the student thinking and learning for a longer period of time. When I was a student the only digital source of transmeadia I had was with emailing, MSN messenger and google.

Transmedia can come in many different forms, including letters, novels, magazines, emails, paintings, videos, and countless other forms can be considered media.(teachthought31.082013) Sites that can be found on the internet to help with creating transmedia are storify, scoop.it, pinterst, wordle, and Powtoon. These sites can be used to create digital teaching resources to help teachers teach there students in a digital way with short burst of learning to help keep the students attention to help them learn their work better.

I feel my children will have a better education than I ever received when I attended school as the world is becoming more digital as we speak.   With this, teachers learn newer and better ways to teach students. I feel transmeadia plays a big role in the classroom these days and will help students learn as many students lack engagement with traditional books and learning.(edutopia 26.08.2011)

DIGITAL IDENTITIES AND DIGITAL SECURITY

securitycommunity_0
Trusted Digital Identity 09/03/2015

Digital identity is online information we supply to create accounts like Facebook, eBay, and dating sites we use our personal information to create these usernames the information we use is Full names, date of birth, address, and our email address this information in all stored in cyberspace.(techopediaTM,ca 2016) The next question would be how safe is our information and how well are we using digital security.

Digital Security is how we protect our identity in cyberspace just like our physical identity our cyber identity needs protecting as well.(gemalto,n.d.) Once your information goes one the internet there will always be a trace of the information left behind no matter how hard we try and clean it up this can be cause by people sharing the information or re posting the source so it is always good to protect your information.  And how do we do that you may ask, the best way we can protect our information is with online security some security software like trend, can protect all you usernames and passwords. We live in such a digital world these days we need to use security to protect our information like our bank logins as the world has become more digital a lot more people are turning to the internet to use the equipment that is on offer.

I think its really important for students to beware of digital identity and security in and out of the classroom as the world is becoming more and more digital each day younger children are using the internet every day and with out this knowledge they could  be putting them self in danger as well as there family not every person appears to be who they say they are on the other end of the internet so it  is really important we teach children from a young age to keep them safe from the sick world we live in.

What is a digital world?

digital world
The Digital World 2016

So far in my studies I have learned that the world is now a very digital place. Classrooms now teach students with smart boards and no longer have blackboards . When I grew up the world was not as digital as it is now. When I was in primary school we only had two computers in our classrooms that had to accommodate the 24 to 30 students in my class so you would be lucky to get a go on the computer once a week.

The digital world has it’s advantages and disadvantageous we can now teach students with digital resources, make short video clips and online posters with the technology in the classroom, these days we can display all these materials with a click of a button. When I was in primary school the closest digital learning I came across was the teacher wheeling in a old square box television with a VCR attached to watch a short movie or clip. My opinion on the advantages of the digital world would be displaying information quick and easy to the students and being able keep their attention with short clips or posters with burst of colours. The disadvantage would be some student are not very familiar with digital devices as there parents may not be able to afford these items at home and they might feel disadvantaged as the other student know how to use computers iPad’s and other digital devices and they have them at home.  This is known as digital divide(Howell 2012)

In years to come I will become a teacher when I finish my studies and I feel that our generation will be privileged to teach in a digital world as education is getting more advanced as each year goes by than it ever has been in the past.
